Dimitris Botinis

Dimitris Botinis was born in 1986 in Moscow, to the family of the famous Greek conductor Dimitris Botinis Sr., from whom he took his first conducting lessons. In 2006 he graduated from the Municipal Conservatory of Patras in Greece (violin class). Under the guidance of Yuri Simonov, he studied conducting, first at master classes in Hungary and then at the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory, from which he graduated with honours in 2011.

In 2006, Dimitris Botinis received the First Prize and all special prizes at the Antonio Pedrotti International Conducting Competition in Trento (Italy). In 2011 he won the First Prize at the All-Russian Music Competition in Moscow.

In 2011-2021, Dimitris Botinis was an assistant to the chief conductor of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, since 2021 he has been its conductor.

In 2015-2022, he was the chief conductor, and since 2022 he has been the chief guest conductor of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the North-Caucasian State Philharmonic named after V. Safonov.

Since September 2022, he has been the artistic director and chief conductor of the Novosibirsk Academic Symphony Orchestra.

Since 2024, Dimitris Botinis has been appointed artistic director and chief conductor of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonia, with which he had performed regularly before and successfully toured China in the 2023/2024 season.

In 2011-2016, he participated in the International Festival Musical Olympus (St. Petersburg). In 2012, Dimitris Botinis began performing with the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra and collaborating with the St. Petersburg House of Music.

Maestro collaborates with leading Russian ensembles, including the Honoured Collective of Russia, the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonia, the State Orchestra of Russia named after E. Svetlanov (Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra), the Tchaikovsky Grand Symphony Orchestra, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, the Russian National Orchestra, the State Symphony Orchestra Novaya Rossiya (New Russia), Ural Academic Philharmonic Orchestra, the State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan.

He has toured to Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Estonia, South Korea, Greece, and Cyprus. In 2017, following a commission from Bayerische Rundfunk, Dimitris Botinis recorded various works by Russian composers together with the Bamberger Symphoniker.

In 2021, he became a laureate of the Russian Presidential Prize for Young Culture Professionals “for the contribution to the development of traditions in Russian musical art and educational activities”.
